The magic of Santa's Workshop is that children shop on their own. The room should make that easy.
Choose the room
A gym corner, the stage, the library or a spare classroom all work. You need space for tables around the edge and a clear path in the middle.
One table per person
Label each table with who the gifts are for: Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Brother, Sister, Teacher. A child who cannot read every word will still recognize "Mom". Browse Mom gifts, Dad gifts, Grandma gifts and Grandpa gifts.
Make a one-way path
Children enter at one end, walk past each table, and finish at the checkout. A one-way path stops crowding and means nobody misses a table.
Put low prices at child height
Gifts at $1 and $2 go at the front edge of the table where small hands reach. Higher-priced gifts go at the back.
The fun table
Save one table for toys, plush and jewelry: gifts for boys and girls, plush and jewelry. It is where children shop for brothers, sisters and friends.
The secret part
At checkout, seal each child's gifts in a gift bag and write their name on it. Nothing is seen until it is opened at home.
Decorate lightly
A string of lights, a red table cover and a "Santa's Workshop" sign at the door are enough. The children bring the excitement.
